Still, Bruce's superb economy of line work, coupled with his skill at rendering expressions that appear to convey a lot more going on behind the eyes than you'd expect, means that they are gorgeous (and sexy) to look at, and the book is easily one to be recommended as a worthy addition for collectors of comic book art. A casual approach of taking in a few of the works at a time would perhaps be more rewarding when approaching the book (and I have found that has been the case when subsequently returning to it), giving yourself the time to absorb the merits of each piece before moving onto the next. As others have noted, aside from fun nods to pulp, horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres, considering Timm's work on the animated Batman series (amongst others), there is only one piece that features superheroes (and generic ones at that) and, disappointingly, despite the variety of poses and situations, Timm's women are essentially all of a similar body type, which does lead to a sense of repetition creeping in when reading the book in one sitting. Terrific volume of collected pieces by Bruce Timm.
